About Our Charity

PBOC is a not-for-profit NGO based in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

a brief history

Planet Biodiesel was founded in 2003 in the United States.  The owner started the business in order to reduce his reliance on fossil fuel energy and provide others the ability to do the same.  The company sold small scale biodiesel production equipment.

In 2006, Tim Waterfield decided to shut down operations in the U.S. and start a charitable organization.  This new charity would be based on clean burning biodiesel.

Selling his house and most of his possessions, Mr. Waterfield was able to raise $100,000.  He travelled to Cambodia and started a non governmental organization.

He quickly realized the biggest problem facing the culture - proper education was not available to most of the children.

Public school teachers are paid an average of $70 per month. This forces many educators to seek additional work.  Some require students to pay them directly.  Children who cannot afford the lessons are not included.  Students are also required to purchase their own school supplies, books and uniforms.

Many families are unable to afford to send their children to school and many teachers are "too busy" to teach.  The result is an adult population that is undereducated and unable to break out of their cycle of poverty.  Most of these families cannot afford to send their children to school for even a few years, and the new generation faces the same problems as the old.

To address this problem PBOC started a small English language learning center at our house.  This provided the only real education for thirty of the poorest children living in the neighborhood.  We purchased sewing equipment and started supplying school books, food and clothing.  After operating for several months, we began to make plans for a new and larger school.  On August 8, 2007 we moved to a larger facility.

We built a biodiesel processing system capable of producing 500 liters of fuel a week.  This biodiesel powers our school bus, produces electricity and provides fuel for our tour company.

summary

PBOC addresses the most serious problems facing Cambodia today.  We operate in the most environmentally friendly way of any NGO or company in the area.  PBOC considers ourselves to be the most transparent charitable organization in Cambodia.  We are requesting charitable donations.  Please help us continue our work.
